Internet Memes

During today's lecture on Web design 2.0 Simon mentioned Internet memes which are videos or information that is quickly sent on from person to person. Immediately (and annoyingly) one thing came into my head which was that infamous "crazy frog". Here it is:

Love it!

And then because of the popularity of this little animation it grew bigger and bigger, ringtones, posters, a song based on the original:

Research Writing Task

For the past few years my creativity has partially been for a qualification and partially for self satisfaction. Last year it was to gain a foundation diploma and a few years before that it was for my A levels. Even though my creativity has so far been for qualification needs I believe it has been done for me. I want these qualifications to better myself and channel my creativeness into something useful, to enhance my ideas with new media and techniques. I believe that I have created things in my own way, true we are quite often given briefs to fulfil but they are always really broad allowing me to interpret it however I want to. I hope in the future that I can continue to interpret briefs to how I want, giving me a free rein.

I believe that to be able to know where I am going I need to know what has happened before. Research is very important in a creative industry for example I create something thinking it is brilliant, one of a kind only to find out that Joe Blogs and his auntie did that 5 years ago. Or I spend weeks and weeks on producing a website for a client only to find out that half of the imagery or colours I have used will offend half of the intended users of the website because of religious or moral beliefs.

My starting point in an investigation is often to explain a topic and describe it to the reader, I tend to shy away from interim research, thinking about emerging trends.

Logo

As part of the Identites project we are to design a logo for ourselves. I understand that a logo is used by buisnesses as a symbol that identifies them, a visual image that people can automatically link to a service or product.
I had a mental image of what I wanted my logo to look like, it was pretty much completed in my first doodle session.

My Logo is a cross between an S and a humming bird. I created some flash animations that show development for the final image. I also quite like that fact that I now have a moving image as my logo.

Playing with the HD Camcorder

For me to be able to help Bindi (a third year multimedia student) with her AV project I had the chance to learn how to use the Sony HD camcorders. This session was tought by another third year multimedia student. We experimented with the manual and auromatic focus and shot some footage with different frames.

This first one is a Close up:

This One is a close up (or head shot) of Diana:

This one is Mid shot of me sat down:

After some experiments indoors we were given a shotlist that we had to shoot outside the Waverley building.

This is a shot of the main doors:

Then we had to shoot a Mid Shot of someone looking towards the doors:

Next we took a Mid Shot of someone telling us who they were and what they were doing:

And finally, we took a Close up of someone telling us who they were and what they were doing:

So that was my afternoon spent learning how to use the cameras! : )

Moodboard for my Identities Cabinet

Here is the mood board for my Identities cabinet, I have included all the objects that I feel are significant to me as a person and therefore as a practitioner.

Firstly, I have included grass as the background layer, this is because I am very fond of green and nature. It is also because of the kind of outdoor sport (football and rugby) I have been involved with from a young age. That is why it includes a pair of rugby boots, displaying these also displays my experience working as a team member which I believe is a very important attribute to have throughout life.

Just visible is a cherry blossom tree aligned to the left of the mood board, again this reflects my love of nature and pretty things, I love how the petals from this tree fall in the wind, it is very much like the snow inside the snow globes that I love so much.

Scattered Cd's represents my love of all kinds of music, using the music that I enjoy in the project is an easy and effective way of creating an atmosphere that displays my personality.

Walking boots in front of a world map is to show my love of travel and adventure, this includes meeting new people and seeing new places.

The paint tubes and brushes is to show my creative side and my favourite past time. Also I have included a movie board and a console remote as other examples of my hobbies.

The digital camera and the MP3 player are to show my interest in technology, the music on someones MP3 player can tell you a lot abut the person as can pictures in a camera.

I included a dominoes set as I love playing board games with family and Friends.

I collect snow globes so I have added one of those. I love how they safely display whatever is inside and create an atmosphere in a delicate glass dome, it is kind of similar to what I will be doing in this project, displaying my objects inside a safe place, creating an atmosphere for them.

When I looked at all these images merging together I realised they were all quite boyish, so I added my favourite perfumes and makeup to remind others, and myself in fact!, that I am a girl - not a very a girly one, but a girl just the same! Only a few lucky people get to see my feminine side but it is there.

Moodboard for my Avatar

I have made a moodboard to help me when designing my avatar in my Identities project. This moodboard is meant to represent different aspects of my personality, these are: Colourful, Artistic, Free spirited, Calm, Sunny, Adventurous and Reflective.
