However, for the box to keep apearing (for the user to continue guessing) you need to create a new condition that says if the answer is not equal to (!=) do the following.

Problem 4 - The User Value

For the user to be able to set the value of row, you need to include a parse float as seen in this coding:

This makes a box appear for the user to edit the size of the 'V':

Here the user has typed in a value of 20 so the size of the 'V' responds to this:

Problem 5

Write a JavaScript program which a large ‘V’ on the screen composed of
smaller ‘v’ characters. Set the number of rows in the ‘V’ by a variable called
‘rows’

Problem 3

Write a JavaScript program which prints a large ‘\’ on the screen composed of
smaller ‘d’ characters. Set the number of rows in the ‘\’ by a variable called rows

Screen shot of the coding as it appears in the browser:

Problem 2

Write a JavaScript program that calculates the sum of the numbers between 1
and 10 (inclusive), using a single while loop.

This displays the sum of numbers through to ten in the browser:

Waterstones

Physical Environment:

The environment is for customers browsing or buying books and it promotes the latest releases, recommends various titles and sells books of all kinds to people of all ages. Books are sorted into genres and alphabetically organised via the authors name. A section is dedicated to the best new releases and special offers. The books are all on shelves throughout the building and signs are above these shelves to display which books are on those shelves. Waterstones is one of my favourite stores, I love the smell, the displays, the books everywhere and I if there is a coffee shop inside it adds more smells and sounds in the environment. A problem there might be is that I'm sure if I am allowed to take pictures inside the store, I would have to ask.

The Waterstones Bridlesmith Gate, Nottingham is one of the contries 'superstores', it has four floors of books, a costa coffe, an events room and an art galley inside

Online Environment:

The website will be aimed at Waterstones existing customers and people who love books. It will be made to look and act differently to an online 'store', while still performing the same action (Informing and selling) it will behave differently. The site will be organised kind of virtually. The user will go in through the doors, see the shelves. The navigation bars will not be the usual list. The website will be updated to match the top books of the week/month and to reflect the time of year i.e Christmas, autumn etc. I feel excited about the online environment, Waterstones motto (or tag line) is 'discover something new', I want to emphasise the 'discover' part as if it is an adventure searching for your favourite author.

Problems with this idea are: I know that this representation of Waterstones will not be liked by everyone as it doesn't follow generic website design / navigation and it may not hold all the links and information that the current website holds because of the layout (it would mean tedious amounts of virtual environment or story created).

The Arboretum

Physical Environment:
This environment provides a relaxing atmosphere and maintains the areas Heritage for people within the city. There are winding pathways throughout the park that take in the nature around. Information on the shrubs and trees is given so that people can discover what is around them in more detail, there are benches around the park to rest on and take in the atmosphere. Following the paths take visitors to the various features within the park. I feel very relaxed and calm in this space, it is very refreshing to walk around a well maintained 'green' area within the city.

Online Environment:
The online environment will be aimed at people who live in the surrounding area of the arboretum and visitors to the city. It will be designed to promote the arboretum, the heritage that it holds and the various features within it. The user will be able to navigate around the park following paths as thay are in the actual park to see the park features and read the information about them. The information on the website would have to be updated to display the various events that take place in the park throughout the year and to show any awards that the park wins. I think the arboretum website would be a great community project which would give me satisfaction.

The Walker Gallery

Physical Environment:
The Walker Gallery is for the general public to view both traditional and contemporary artworks. The gallery is sectioned into different rooms each room displaying work from a set period. There are some maps around the building that guide the visitors to each exhibition but each room naturally leads through to the next (through the centuries).
The rooms are well spaced out, the painting being on the walls of the room and the centre has benches or sculptural works related to those on the walls.
The problem with this building is that it is in Liverpool and I am unable to get there for the next few weeks. Also it would be difficult to go back to the building for more information time and time again as it is so far away.

The Online Environment:
The online environment will be aimed at people who like artwork but maybe cannot access the gallery for whatever reason. It will display the gallery's current exhibitions and provide information such as information on the artist and the art movements involved in the piece. It would also include links related to the artists featured and their style, perhaps even links to other galleries displaying other work by these featured artists. The website would be designed to make the user feel like they in the walker gallery, they would be free to navigate through the rooms as they would if they were actually there. Thumbnails would be used of the images which will enlarge when selected bringing with it the information on the artist and the piece. If it is a sculpture there will be a tool to rotate it. The website would need to be updated when the exhibitions are changed. I would be very happy creating this website as the Walker Gallery is my favourite art gallery, I go there whenever I go home in the holidays and I always wait in anticipation for the John Moores exhibition. A problem that there may be in creating this website is that I am unsure of the gallery's policy with the use of cameras, if they are against people taking pictures of the works then they may not like that each and every piece will be accessible online through the website. This could be solved by putting a watermark through the image but that would go against the purpose of the website by ruining the view of the artwork.

Coraline

I also took a look at the website for the film Coraline as the film was made in the style that I really like. http://www.coraline.com/; this website has a look that I find really appealing, it uses imagary found in the film and is really fun to use. The user has complete control over which part of the environment they want to explore.

I especially liked a part where you can create your own flower and post it onto your myspace page or your facebook page.

I would however change the start of the website where it allows you to select a version of the film (DVD, 3D or Blueray) and navigates you to a page where can buy the film, or you can ignore this and press 'enter site'. I would have put that somewhere inside the website itself so that it doesnt feel commercial from the start. Although the designer could have put this at the start so that there was no commercial areas inside the environment which I think is a good idea.

Take a look at the website, I really enjoyed it: http://www.coraline.com/

Harry Potter

Another thing that sprung to mind when thinking about the environment that I want to create was Harry Potter (Still loving it after all these years!!) J.K Rowling created an entire world for people to emmerse themselves in. It was the entrace to Diagon Alley that stuck in my head, where the bricks all slide around and part to reveal this hidden world to the viewers for the first time. So I went to http://www.harrypotter.com/ to see how the website is looking and as previously found it has been made to completly represent the story. The images used are photos but they behave in a 2D way, when the mouse is moved, that reminded me of a pop up book. Another part of the website that I really enjoyed was the Gallery, at first we see one of the main characters as the focus point of the page but then thumnail images from the film start to fly around him.

Selecting one of the pictures as it glides across the screen causes it to enlarge in the middle of the screen so that you can see it better and then close it again when you are done.

I thought it is a really cool way to display the pictures instead of just useing static images. It makes it a far more engaging page of the website.
